A reliable conversion workflow
- Choose the calendar used by your source date.
- Enter the complete day, month and year; read the month name to avoid ambiguous numeric formats.
- Calculate and record both the input and the resulting date.
- Check the active Hijri adjustment if another source differs.
How the app chooses a method
The conversion library includes Umm al-Qura tables for 1356–1500 AH. Outside that table range it uses a separate calculation method. These two cases should not be presented as if both were direct readings from the same modern table.
A calculated Hijri date can differ from a calendar based on an actual local crescent sighting. For a future religious occasion, use the result to plan provisionally and confirm the community announcement when it becomes available.
Worked check: convert there and back
With zero Hijri adjustment, the app converts Wednesday, 16 September 2026 to 5 Rabi al-Thani 1448 AH. The weekday remains Wednesday because conversion changes the calendar label, not the day itself.
To check a conversion, note the returned Hijri date and convert that value back using the same adjustment settings. The returned Gregorian day should match the original. This round-trip check helps detect a mistyped field or changed setting; it does not prove agreement with a local moon-sighting calendar.
If the return date differs, confirm that you did not change the adjustment or calendar type between operations. Keep a screenshot of both inputs when reporting a discrepancy, and include the browser language and adjustment value.
Historical dates need context
Our library applies historical Julian/Gregorian handling around the 1582 transition. Actual civil-calendar adoption differed between places. A date printed in an old document may therefore require knowledge of the calendar used where and when it was written.
Do not treat the converter as an archive of historical moon sightings or as proof of the calendar used by a particular document. Preserve the original written date and cite the conversion convention alongside any converted value.
